"The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution."

In a CSPAN interview, Van Jones admits that "environmentalists" only care about the environment when it helps advance their political cause:

You’ve never seen the environmental movement more quiet during an oil
spill. I guarantee you, if John McCain had been President, with that oil
spill, or George Bush had been President with that oil spill, I’d have
been out there with a sign protesting. I didn’t, because of who the
President was.

This reminds Glenn Reynolds of how "feminists" suddenly ceased to care about rape, women's rights, and sexual harassment in the workplace when such caring would have hurt Bill Clinton.

Liberals don't care about "the issue."  Liberals care about power.  In other words, as an SDS radical once said: "The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution."

For liberals, such hypocrisy over issues is not a fault: it is a virtue.  This is something to remember whenever you are tempted to discuss "an issue" with a liberal.
