Government as parent

Energy Secretary Steven Chu says Americans behave like children:
“The American public…just like your teenage kids, aren’t acting in a way that they should act, The American public has to really understand in their core how important this issue is.”
Democrats try to understand politics through analogies to childhood but this is often not helpful. In this case, the public is responding quite rationally to the low-cost of energy combined with general skepticism of global warmism. The skepticism is fueled not just by scientists but also by the hypocrisy of its most public advocates, including the Dept. of Energy itself.

(Energy Department spokesman Dan Leistikow tried to backtrack on Chu's analogy: “Secretary Chu was not comparing the public to teenagers. He was saying that we need to educate teenagers about ways to save energy.")
