Counter to the national trend, the state of California, a failed state after 30 years of liberal rule, moved further left on Tuesday: the Governorship and both houses of the legislature will be controlled by Democrats. Expanding the Democrats power, the legislature no longer needs a 2/3rds vote to pass new spending: Proposition 25 reduced the requirement to a simple majority so minority Republicans will no longer be able to put any brake on spending.
