Obama supporters explain why you should vote Obama in 2012. From the streets of San Francisco!

This video was taken during Obama's last two visits to the SF Bay Area. The SF Tea Party was at both to protest (see here and here). The highlight of the video though has to be the Obama supporters trying to explain what Obama's greatest accomplishments are:

San Franciscans protest against Obama

Barack Obama, America's Fundraiser-in-Chief, visited San Francisco today in search of still more campaign cash. Because San Francisco, home to Nancy Pelosi, has a reputation as America's most liberal city, one might think that The One would be safe from criticism here. It is not so. As he arrived for lunch at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in the historic Merchants Exchange Building on California Street, the San Francisco Tea Party was there to greet him (click on any photo to enlarge):

Just a couple years ago, the local SF news media ignored tea parties. Now, they will take a few pictures of tea parties and sometimes their reports are even accurate. Below, KRON interviews Sally Zelikovsky, the founder of the Bay Area Patriots:

After the rally, Sally commented that the media interest in the Tea Party seemed to be at an all-time high. Could it be that the Wisconsin results have finally convinced them that the Tea Party is not going away? [Update: Fund47 has more on the press coverage. Sally writes on the press coverage here.]

There is always a lot of security for the President but, in my observation, this was a first: to protect The One, dump trucks were used to block off the streets:

Naturally, this prompted the crowd to burst out in a chorus of "Dump Obama."

At another moment, a dog was seen being walked toward the Merchants Exchange Building. Concerned that Obama might think it appetizing, the crowd shouted chants of "poor little pup" and "save the dog."

The number of vehicles requires to protect the President is always impressive. Here is an array of San Francisco Police motorcycles that arrived as part of the Presidential protection detail:

Does this make the SFPD California's largest biker gang? Regardless, the use of so many vehicles, replicated along every step of the way, shows just a small piece of how carbon-intensive Obama's travel really is.

The left also appeared. Apparently in sympathy with polar bears (but not with consumers), this crowd wanted to stop arctic drilling:

There was also a contingent of left-wing anti-war protesters such as this woman:

It was just four years ago that there was much Hope for all the Change that America's new messiah would bring. It must be very disappointing to the left that Gitmo is still open and that they still need their venerable "peace" signs. Reality is tough.

Obama visits the San Francisco Peninsula and a Tea Party breaks out

Pres. Obama had another busy day of fundraising today. First he went to the Atherton home of heirs of the Levi Strauss fortune where he had dinner with supporters who paid $35,800 per plate. He then went to Fox Theatre (where he missed his entrance cue) in Redwood City to mix with supporters who paid from $1,000 to $12,500 per person to attend. Outside the Fox, the San Francisco Tea Party assembled to protest Obama (click photos to enlarge):
Don't get confused by the "Hope-Change" signs above: they read "Hope you like the Change November 6, 2012." There are also signs supporting Romney, opposing "Obama Debt," as well as several of San Francisco's red Nobama 2012 fingers. Here are some more views:





The San Jose Mercury News has a story on this event that manages to miss the story. Their report features Obama supporters and mentions critics of Obama only if they criticize him from the anti-war left. By count of signs, as you can see above, the crowd was overwhelmingly from the Tea Party but the Mercury didn't mention 'tea party' in the story at all. Print newspapers deserve their financial troubles.

This is San Francisco's third Tea Party this year. The first protested outside an Obama fundraiser on Nob Hill. The second was the traditional tax day Tea Party.

Fake Tea Party Scandal in Boston (Updated with video)

Liberals everywhere are outraged by what happened at a Boston Tea Party. ThinkProgress and DailyKos have stories on it. The Huffington Post has two stories (here and here) on it. They all report that the speaker at a Tea Party event shouted: "We will not be silenced by faggots."

There are two things you should know about this scandal:

1. The first is that it wasn't at a real tea party. Well before the event, the Greater Boston Tea Party issued a statement (hat tip: Boston Globe) recommending that its members avoid the rally organized by an "unfamiliar" group and reaffirming that real tea parties are focused on fiscal not social issues:

   In keeping with the Greater Boston Tea Party’s tradition of welcoming all that want to preserve our Constitutional freedoms, we will be neither endorsing nor attending the rally on the Boston Common scheduled for Sunday, April 15, 2012. In fact, we encourage tea party activists to avoid the event. Sponsored by an unfamiliar “Mass Tea Party Coalition”, the lack of communication and collaboration with established tea party organizations concerns us that this is an organization bent on damaging the good name of the tea party movement.

   For nearly three years, Greater Boston Tea Party has been strongly focused on the serious fiscal issues facing the Commonwealth and this country. Our organization does not take positions on social issues, such as gay marriage or abortion. While these issues are important to many people, including some of our members, they do not apply to our mission of advocating for personal responsibility and individual Liberty.

   The statement about the rogue group being "bent on damaging the good name of the tea party movement" was quite prescient.


2. The second is that each of the stories alleging this use of the word "faggot" is sourced from DailyKos and DailyKos seemingly has a single source: an anonymous twitter user with the handle tulasana whose motto is "keep calm and smash patriarchy." DailyKos also admits that they don't even which speaker is supposed to have said it. Despite the claimed crowds at the event, no one claims to have a video of the alleged statement.

So there you have it: the left-blogosphere fuss is about a statement that one twitter user alleges to have been said but doesn't even claim to know who said it at a rally organized by such an odious rogue group that the event had been condemned by the Greater Boston Tea Party well before it happened.

When you see a poorly-constructed left-wing hit piece like this, you have to ask: how long before it is printed in the New York Times?

UPDATE: DailyKos' source lied. Scott Lively actually said "we will not be silenced by fascists." You can hear him say it quite clearly in the video below at about the 11 minute mark:

Also, at the 13:13 mark, there is a speaker who, while supporting Lively, admits that Boston area tea parties objected to their misuse of the tea party name. (The speaker goes on, of course, to try to attack and belittle those tea parties.)

San Francisco Tax Day Tea Party

In an event supported by a biker gang and opposed by Occupier infiltrators, San Franciscans gathered this afternoon for a tax day Tea Party (click on most photos to enlarge):

A chorus line entered the stage with each dancer representing a digit in the national debt. It takes a lot of digits:

Several candidates for office spoke. Also, several individuals, such as this man, took to the stage to tell their story:

This woman had a simple direct message for Democrats: "Grow up. Take care of yourself"

It seems that red is the new black. How come I didn't get the memo?:
The red 'Nobama" fingers in many of these photos are in support of Gov. Brewer and in defiance of a local reporter who thought that no one in San Francisco would wag a finger at Obama.

Obama's debt will be paid off by our children and grandchildren. This family took notice:

"Throw all of them out!" says this sign which shows a donkey and a rhino:

Four Occupiers arrived. This camera-shy Occupier, possibly a veteran of the Police-Occupy battles (see here or here), had a message: "F*** the police - directly oppressive force. Law does not apply here: sovereign citizen solidarity." His sweatshirt, not fully visible here, also sported a "F*** the police" message:
The other side of his sign noted that California's homeless population was "135,928" while there are "1,102,583" vacant homes in the state. He concludes "WTF!" There seemed no point in discussing issues of economics, private property, or the nature of the homeless population with him:
Another Occupier, by contrast, seemed genuinely interested in discussing the issues. He, for example, saw a sign "the politics of envy leads to socialism" and he thought it made no sense. I explained it and he understood. Not all Occupiers are angry and violent. I have met several now who I expect will mature into responsible citizens.

The two protesters below thought that the constitution grants states the right to decide marijuana legalization. Claiming to be advocates of constitutional liberties, they thought they should have Tea Party support and were upset that the tea party organizers would not let them speak at this event:

Remember how the Occupier above thought that the police were a "directly oppressive force"? Somehow, Tea Partiers don't have the same problem with police, as you can see by the relaxed stance of these SFPD officers assigned to the rally:
Their ease reflects the fact that Tea Partiers understand private property and responsible behavior. The city permit for the protest required, for example, that, in deference to other users of the park, the sound system be turned off at 3:30pm. It was.

This rally was organized by the San Francisco Tea Party and was supported by MyLiberty (San Mateo County), the North Bay Patriots (Marin County) and seven other Bay Area Tea Party affiliated groups.

Tea Party Protests Obama in San Francisco

San Francisco's Nob Hill was home to many of the famous 19th century "robber barons," the crony capitalists of their day. So it is natural that Pres. Obama would hold fundraisers there. Thursday (yesterday) afternoon, he was at the Marc Hopkins Hotel, a luxury hotel named after a railroad robber baron. In the evening he moved to Nob Hill Masonic Center. The San Francisco Police allowed protesters to assemble along the opposite side of California Street with one section for the Tea Party and one for left-wingers. Hundreds arrived for the Tea Party, seen here standing in front of Grace Cathedral:Here is another view of the Tea Partiers:
The nun, shown above checking text messages on her cell phone, was among those outraged by Obama's decision to require churches to provide abortifacients to their employees.

Good liberals were, of course, incensed that Gov. Brewer would have the audacity to wag her finger at Obama last month. At the San Francisco Weekly, one local reporter, Erin Sherbert, responded with a piece headlined:

Obama Coming to San Francisco, Where Nobody Will Wag Their Fingers in His Face

Naturally, the SF Bay Area Patriots responded by making the theme for this rally to be "wag your finger" at Obama. The red plastic fingers seen below were labeled "Nobama":
The crowd on the Tea Party side, as seen above, was packed shoulder-to-shoulder. The left/liberal/occupy side of the gates was less well attended:
There was a brief flurry of activity on the left side when the pro-marijuana protesters arrived:
By the smell of it, they had been partying before hand. They left not long after they arrived. One can only speculate that, suffering from a case of the munchies, they had to go in search of food.

This protest was organized by the San Francisco Bay Area Patriots and supported by the North Bay Patriots (Marin County) and MyLiberty (San Mateo County).

Jane Jamison, RIP

One of the San Francisco Bay Area's finest bloggers has passed away. She wrote under the pen name Jane Jamison and was the founder of the very successful Uncoverage.net blog and, more recently, a contributor at Right Wing News.

In a recent post, she described some of the perils of being a conservative in the San Francisco Bay Area:

I have written for years and worked radio for years under a pen name. I do so because in the past when I used my real name for my broadcast and written work, I have had my car vandalized, my home vandalized, phone threats, death threats and my children were approached by strangers at their sports activities.

Liberals can be very dangerous people, especially here in the bay area, where I have had my tires flattened and my car windows broken when I attended counterprotests against liberal groups. They have pushed, shoved and threatened me with violence at their protests over the years when I would show up with counter protest signs or question their activities. I unfortunately, have to do work with liberals in the San Francisco bay area who undoubtedly would fire me or not hire me due to my political beliefs, so I keep my professional writing persona and my personal life “separate” for my safety. [Emph. added]

(It is wise to remember that liberals are not "tolerant.")

Although I never met Ms. Jamison in person, she was a long-time friend of this blog. Examples of our shared interest in SF Bay Area protests are here and here. At Uncoverage, she did impressive original investigative work exposing the scandals that the local media preferred to ignore. Her contribution to the cause of freedom will not be forgotten.

Four Democrat Senators side with the Tea Party

The "unbiased" media may still be calling the Tea Party "radical" or "extremist" but the Washington Post reports today that four Democratic Senators have broken from the White House and are asking for deficit reduction to be attached to any measure to raise the US debt ceiling:

The push-back has come in recent days from Sens. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), a freshman who is running for reelection next year. Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) told constituents during the Easter recess that he would not vote to lift the debt limit without a “real and meaningful commitment to debt reduction.”

Even Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), generally a stalwart White House ally, is undecided on the issue and is “hopeful” that a debt-ceiling bill can be attached to a measure to cut the federal deficit, said her spokesman, Linden Zakula. Klobuchar is also up for reelection next year.

The Obama White House responded by doubling down on its call for more debt:

The White House has condemned efforts to attach additional measures to the debt-ceiling issue. Press secretary Jay Carney has called it “a dangerous, risky idea to hold hostage . . . a vote on raising the debt ceiling to any other piece of legislation.”

The Democrats are likely not breaking with Obama because of a greater understanding of economics or a concern for the countries future generations. It is more likely because they are reading the polls:

Just 16 percent of Americans favor lifting the debt ceiling, according to a Wall Street Journal/NBC survey published this month. Nearly six in 10 independents opposed it. Democrats were divided, with nearly half saying they did not know enough to have an opinion.

Evidence that the Tea Party is succeeding

The State Coordinator for the Wisconsin Tea Party has received a death threat. The Brookfield WI Patch reports:

Police are increasing patrols near the Brookfield home of a state tea party leader who has pushed for greater health and pension concessions from public employees after he received a veiled death threat over the weekend.

Wisconsin Tea Party Patriots State Coordinator Michael Hintze told police when he answered a call on his cell phone about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, a male voice "asked if he was wearing a bullet-proof vest" and then hung up.

In 2009, the liberals ignored the Tea Party. Next, they ridiculed it ("racist, sexist, anti-gay"). Now they fight in a way that seems to come naturally to them: anonymous death threats.

Should you trust a Republican politician?

No, of course not.

Republicans do, however, seem to re-discover their conservative/libertarian principles if they fear a primary challenge. According to Stephen Moore at the Wall Street Journal, Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Indiana) is a recent example of this. Last year, Sens. Bob Bennett (R-Utah) and Lisa Murkowski (I-Alaska), along with other establishment-backed candidates, lost in Republican primaries. That seems to have created a new level of respect for the-will-of-the-people among Washington Republicans. Without that respect, the Omnibus pork bill and the DREAM amnesty acts would likely have passed in the Senate.

What a long strange trip its been!

In the 1960s, the hippies in San Francisco protested the establishment. In 2010, two of SF's better known ex-hippies, guitarists Bob Weir and Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead, host a fundraiser for establishment politician Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and the Tea Partiers line the streets to protest them (photo courtesy of Fund47):

What happens at a Tea Party Meeting?

They talk about the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and how it relates to what Pres. Obama is doing now. Here, in two parts, is a short (17 min.) video presentation by Leonard Stone given at a meeting of MyLiberty, the official Tea Party Patriot group of San Mateo County, California. The lecture explores the grievances listed in the Declaration of Independence, how those grievances influenced the writing of the Constitution, and how it relates to what Pres. Obama is doing now.

The first part of the video discusses the first two of the grievances in the Declaration, what motivated them, and how they are relevant today:

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

The differences between then and now are obvious. Obama is not the king of England, for example. However, the similarities, such as are playing out in Louisiana and Arizona, are also, as Mr. Stone makes plain, striking.

The second half of the lecture addresses the next four grievances:

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected, whereby the Legislative Powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

The Founding Fathers experienced what it was like to live under an oppressive government and they clearly designed the US Constitution in response to those governmental abuses. This is why the Progressive Movement found the Constitution to be an obstacle and why we need to continue to defend the Constitution against today's progressives.

California tilts Republican

SurveyUSA reports that Republicans are leading in California in both the Senate and Governor races:

In an election for Governor of California today, 07/12/10, Republican Meg Whitman edges Democrat Jerry Brown 46% to 39%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KABC-TV Los Angeles, KPIX-TV San Francisco, KGTV-TV San Diego, and KFSN-TV Fresno. . . . .

In the race for United States Senate, Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer and Republican Carly Fiorina are effectively even. Fiorina 47%, Boxer 45%, within the survey's theoretical margin of sampling error.

Although the Senate race is within the poll's margin of error, this is continues a long trend of rising numbers for Carly Fiorina and the first time that Fiorina has shown a lead, however small, over Boxer. Any number below 50% is a bad sign for an incumbent.

Concerned for Sen. Boxer's future, VP Biden held a fundraiser for her last Thursday in Atherton, CA, on the San Francisco Peninsula. I wasn't there but Larry from San Francisco was and he reports on the protests organized by Carly Fiorina for CA:

A Tea Party greets Obama in San Francisco and the left is not happy about it

When Pres. Obama came to San Francisco today for a fundraiser for Sen. Boxer, he was greeted by a Tea Party. This upset San Francisco's sometimes violent leftists who chanted:

Racist, sexist, anti-gay
Tea Party go away!

Last October, left and right freely intermingled at a protest in San Francisco. That friendly atmosphere ended when three right protesters were injured and at least two leftists arrested after this year's May Day rally at San Francisco's Civic Center.

Today's protests were at the top of Nob Hill across Mason street from the Fairmont Hotel where Pres. Obama and Sen. Ma'am Boxer's fundraiser was being held. The police divided the block into two sections, the right half for the Tea Partiers and the left half, naturally, for the leftists. This is the view of the left side: If one looks more closely at the left side, one can see the preprinted ANSWER coalition (communist) signs, mostly in Spanish:
The right-hand side held the Tea Partiers:
The round floating black object (seen both above and below) is a blimp labeled "FailedSenator.com," a website created by Carly Fiorina, a liberal Republican who hopes to challenge Sen. Boxer this Fall.
Notice the sign above which reads "We the people or they the ruling class?" Both left and right seem to agree that Pres. Obama is the leader of the ruling class. The two sides disagree over who represents "the people." The (leftist) speaker in the video above explains that he thinks that Tea Partiers are the rich who got that way by denying the poor their due.

Here is an expressive sign from the Tea Party side:

As another example of the upset leftists, here is a man with a bullhorn who, before being drowned out by another leftist with a bullhorn, shouts repeatedly "Tea Party fascism":

The video above shows the space between the left and right sides. This space, a DMZ if you will, was created and enforced by the SF Police.

It was evident that the left liked their "racist, sexist, anti-gay" chant as they kept repeating it. Here is how it sounded from the Tea Party side of the DMZ:
